Here we are finally, a Bercel Christmas letter! My apologies for those who missed our letter last year, we didn't send one. It was a rough winter with the kids and N getting the flu. We are back on track and doing well.
We moved to Michigan in the spring 2009. N took a job at the airport. He is learning the ropes of Michigan traffic and has completed the training process. Living back in Michigan has rekindled his interest in the great outdoors. Last spring he got a canoe and did quite a bit of fishing. The kids called it the Big Banana. It was a little too tipsy for me with all five of us in. The boys really enjoyed it this summer. We visited many lakes and rivers. They love jumping out of it and into the water. We have a state park pass and were able to put it to good use this summer.
Six is in the first grade this year. He has taken off with reading and started bringing home chapter books. He is a good student and played on a soccer team this fall. Six truly loved every practice and game. He loves to ride his scooter and got a new red bike for his birthday last spring. Lego's are his indoor activity. Star Wars Lego's and movies are very common in our household these days and I imagine, will be the theme for Christmas. N built bunk beds when we were in Texas. This spring was the first time we actually bunked them with Six moving to the top bunk. Their room is "the boy room." It is complete with the bunk beds, a fish tank and a Lego table. Six is a great boy and makes us proud on a daily basis.
Five is loving kindergarten. He has really settled in well to the routine of school. It's a full day of kindergarten every day of the week. He too loves Lego's. He ditched the training wheels on his bike this year. Once Five gets an idea into his head, he is determined to make it happen. We had a few wardrobe challenges within the last year, but that is getting easier as the days go by. Five has become very interested in writing. We rescued a dry erase board from the church and now he writes all of the time. He loves to color and read as well.
Three attends preschool twice a week for two hours a day. She loves it. Five attended the same school last year, making Three familiar with the location. She was very excited to go and be with her friends. She is all about babies these days. Lucy and Theresa are her favorite dolls she received for her birthday. Most days I can find her singing songs throughout the house, doing her own thing. Recently she has started telling people she is a big sister because she doesn't want anything to do with being little. We've recently started braiding her hair, which has been fun for both of us.
I have been back in the classroom this year as a substitute. I also help in both boys classrooms and was able to teach them some German! Six attends religious education class one night a week; I attend too as his teacher. It's been a nice way of spending time together. N and I coached Five's soccer team this year. What an adventure that was! I didn't know anything about soccer, but they were going to cancel the team if they didn't find a coach. We gave it a whirl and had a great time. I have taken up reading and have quite a few new books on my list. I didn't think I had time to read, but somehow it works. I have also started a blog online. I try to keep up with it as much as I can.
We will be able to make the journey to Minnesota for a white Christmas this year. The kids are very excited. We would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our house to yours!
